HACKATHON

Hack Covid-19

Hack Covid-19 was a Pandemic Response Hackathon convened by Datavant where technology companies came together to focus on solutions to a wide range of problems created by the pandemic.

My Role

I had various roles during the course of this hackathon. It was a time of intense learning in regards to strategy and leadership while completing the project in such a limited amount of time. Here are my roles in this project:
Planning
Our team worked in an Agile environment in order to keep us all accountable. I assisted with coordinating what tasks we would get done, set deadlines to complete tasks as well as scheduled times for meetings to discuss progress and show our findings.

Sketching
Based on our research, information architecture and user flows, I created sketches to validate and demonstrate how those key functions would be performed.

Designing & Prototyping
I created visual wireframes using Adobe XD and created a clickable prototype using Invision.

Problem Space

There is so much misinformation on COVID-19. Where can I find up-to-date information from trusted and reliable sources?

Key Pain Points

Validity of the information found online
Scattered information across multiple channels and media outlets
Users are unaware of the severity of the pandemic, on-going updates or the appropriate steps to take

Design Challenge

How might we create an interactive resource to provide up-to-date information on the Covid-19 pandemic that is reliable and concise, while reaching the widest audience base.

The Context

I had the opportunity to work with two other UX Designers on a project focused on Public Health Information-sharing. Collaborating remotely in a team during a time self quarantine was both fun and challenging.

Together, we researched tools for local governments to share updated statistics and information with citizens. We ideated which concepts would have the most reach for all age groups, and validated our concepts through sketching, wire framing and prototyping.

Understanding the Problem

One of the challenges during this project was to determine our users and their needs during a time where the Covid-19 situation is constantly evolving. To better understand our users' pain points, we used media observation, predictive analysis and competitive analysis of current pandemic resources already available.
THE PROBLEM
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to evolve, there’s new information to pay attention to that comes out daily. Unfortunately there are as many half-truths and untruths about this crisis as there are facts - and all from different websites and forms of communication. This can make it difficult for anyone to find credible information on what the current situation is, what precautions and steps to take and how to prevent further spread.

THE NEED
Users need an accessible resource for information on the pandemic that is easy to use on all digital platforms.
With a combination of the Design Sprint week, agile workflow, and intense collaboration, we were able to deliver the project in three days.

Value Proposition

Our aim with this project was to create a responsive website that was easy for people of all ages to use across mobile, desktop, tablet platforms. With this, covID was born: a one-stop hub that gives the user accurate and updated information on the COVID-19 pandemic. Information that’s clear, concise and easy for anyone to understand and moreover, that they can TRUST is the right information coming from credible sources directly from health officials or the government in their target specific area.

Combining Ideas

The three main points that the solution tackles are: a scalable way of present information, knowledge, real-time updates on statistics and guided self-check.

Information Architecture

User Flows

Low Fidelity Wireframes

High Fidelity Wireframes

Next Steps

Given the time constraints of the hackathon, our group was able to create a workable prototype for mobile. I would like to continue to build on the browser prototype to further test our flows and how users will engage with the website so that we can give it more of an interactive experience.
